Update on the iTunes Situation

I've been doing some more research into this whole iTunes trouble (see previous post on iTunes).  Here is what I have found out:

So, I borrowed my mom's lap top so I could Skype yesterday, and I plugged my iPhone into it.  Everything worked just fine.  iTunes popped up, asked me to update to the new OS, but.......this isn't the computer I sync to, so can't do it.

Thus, the problem must be with my computer.  After considerable searching around for an answer on Apple.com and entering the error I receive into Google, results are that I have a Microsoft issue, not an iTunes issue.

Here's the skinny on that.  Apparently a Microsoft update (the kind that update when you shut your computer off) didn't download correctly and is preventing me from installing iTunes.  My quest now leads me to researching how to fix this Microsoft issue.  If I find an answer, I will post here.  I guess if I don't find an answer, I will also post here. So, either way look for an update soon.

  1. The whole OS thing threw me for a loop this week too! It took nearly two hours for me to download, install, and get everything set-up again. Hopefully it is worth the effort!

  2. I wonder if it's only a Microsoft issue, as I have a Mac, and my iPhone used to sync just fine with iTunes on my Mac, and now when I plug my phone into my computer iTunes doesn't recognize it at all. Very frustrating as I want to sync my photos! ANy other Mac users have this issue with an iPhone (I have iPhone 4). My iPod Touch syncs fine with the new OS.

  3. Hi Amy,
I had some earlier weird problems that sound exactly like yours. Helen helped me with some of them but there was still some issue. It somehow magically took care of itself. it's so weird. i kept getting an error and then one day it was gone. I have no idea if i have the new os system. I think if it asked me, i probably said yes. so, i think sometimes technology is just finicky. hang in there! We're all with ya!

  4. So, does this mean i can only add stuff to my Iphone from the computer that I synch with? I wanted to have my brother put some music on my phone for me and so we plugged my phone into his computer (mac) and it wouldn't give us the option to add anything to my phone. It would allow us to copy from my phone onto his computer and I think it said that we could synch it, so if I remember right I did, but it still wouldn't allow us to put anything from his Itunes onto my phone. Is this just not possible or did I do something wrong?

  5. Muskadee,

If I recall, you can plug your iPhone into someone elses computer and add their music but you have to make sure they have their iTunes set to manually sync their music library. If they have it set to automatic, you will get all their music and lose all yours in the process. I'd check to see if I'm correct but I no longer even have iTunes :(

  6. As far as I know you can only sync your iPhone with one computer - I suspect exactly so that you can't share music as well as apps and other paid stuff. So I think if you sync with your brother's computer then it will no longer have the things you put on it from your computer.

You can sync multiple devices from the same computer, though (e.g. my iPhone, iPad and iPod touch all sync to my computer, and I have each device sync slightly differently, as I don't use them all for the same things). ie. The combined total of music, podcasts, apps, photos etc for all devices is on iTunes via my computer, but only subsets of this on each device. Now with iCloud and the new OS5 I think you can sync among devices and from your iTunes account through the cloud and not have to use your computer -- but I'm still playing around with figuring this out.

Correct me anyone if I am wrong on this?
